The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry was to understand the experiences of a Thai woman who moved to Japan and ended up in the prostitution industry. In this qualitative narrative inquiry, I gathered data through semi-structured interviews with 1 survivor participant and 5 organizational participants. First, I interviewed a Thai woman who shared details on her life before her entry into the prostitution industry, her experiences as a part of the prostitution industry, and her exit from and life since after leaving the prostitution industry. I also interviewed 5 representatives from organizations that have at least one project based in Thailand and focus on anti-trafficking and anti-exploitation. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using qualitative coding methods to reveal six major themes and 2-4 secondary themes. In examining the survivor participant's life before prostitution, the findings reveal intertwining factors that led to her entry into prostitution that were{A0}influenced by family of origin, community, and culture. The survivor participant was negatively impacted by poverty, abuse, and educational disruption, making it difficult for her to earn money after she moved out of her rural hometown into a city. After working in Bangkok, she was approached by a trafficker who lured her to Tokyo, Japan under false pretenses. After her first exit from prostitution, she reentered two additional times. She remained out of prostitution after converting to Christianity, getting counseling for her trauma, and finding financial stability.Organizational participants also discussed their programs' participants entry into exploitation, in situ factors within their exploitation, and necessary measures for supporting them towards rehabilitation after leaving exploitation. Organizational representatives also shared the importance of localized efforts in preventing exploitation at the micro-level within specific, at-risk communities. Debates regarding controversial methods were shared by organizational participants. Furthermore, organizational participants examined some of the nuanced understandings within the broader anti-trafficking movement that are often misunderstood by stakeholders.The study's findings add to social scientific theories on the Thai sense of selfhood in relation to identity and family. Additionally, the study includes theological implications on the intersection between exploitation and vulnerability. The findings also offer practical implications for various stakeholders within the anti-trafficking movement, especially those focused on at-risk Thai communities or trafficked and smuggled individuals from neighboring countries.
