The intent of this dissertation is to identify how an adaptation of communities of practice, piloted as communities of global engagement, will cultivate collaborative mission engagement among leaders of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians. The research arose based on the need to develop strategies for strengthening ECO's connectional practices and deepening the global engagement for this new denomination. In part I, an argument is made from the literature that for the denominational distinctives of ECO, a communities of practice design could be an effective way to cultivate collaborative mission engagement in ECO. Part II offers a description of the field research survey and case study used to investigate the current attitudes, opportunities, and challenges for cultivating collaborative mission engagement. The field research shaped a strategy that is defined as "communities of global engagement." In part III, the change design and implementation steps are outlined for piloting communities of global engagement. The hope is that by highlighting these communities in ECO communications and inviting ECO leaders to engage in existing opportunities to collaborate in mission, new communities will form and provide connection for ECO churches in global engagement. Connecting ECO leaders with global mission partners in these communities can lead to synergy for missional transformation, helping ECO churches to flourish and participate in God's global mission.
