The purpose of the research was to examine how Mark portrayed Jesus making disciples of various groups through what He taught. The researcher sought to answer the question of how Jesus taught His disciples to make disciples by what He taught by investigating how and what He taught the twelve disciples, the crowds, and the religious rulers, who opposed Him. The proposed outcome of the research was that Jesus distinctively taught the disciples and the other groups how they should follow Him and how much God loved them by way of teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. A close reading of the Gospel of Mark was the research method employed to analyze how and what Jesus, both in word and in deed, taught the disciples, the crowds, and those who opposed Him. The findings of the close reading revealed that Jesus, throughout His earthly ministry, used everything He said and did with His disciples to teach them what they were expected to do. Jesus' earthly ministry was marked by teaching, healing, expelling evil spirits, performing miracles, encountering opposition, and fulfilling His sacrificial mission. Although they were imperfect followers, the disciples learned through their very deliberate and personal relationship with Jesus how to follow Him. The goal of this research was to inform disciple makers that discipleship is inclusive of being taught the Word of God by word and by demonstration, actively adhering to what has been learned, and intentionally propagating discipleship to others.
