The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of self-assessed teacher self-efficacy on the student outcome as measured by achievement and growth in math and English language arts. Teacher self-efficacy was investigated in terms of overall efficacy and the subfactors of classroom management, student engagement, and the use of high yield instructional strategies. The Teacher Sense of Self-Efficacy survey results classified 32 teachers into three categorical groups of low efficacy, medium efficacy, or high efficacy for each teacher self-efficacy subfactors. Data were analyzed using a factorial Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) to compare the differences in the dependent variables of student achievement and growth scores for each of the independent variables of teacher self-efficacy subfactors. The results of this study indicate English language arts teachers with a higher sense of self-efficacy lead to the greatest student outcome of higher ELA student achievement and growth. The practical implications of this research include the need to evaluate and develop teacher self-efficacy as a method to improve student academic success.
