According to the literature review, limited studies existed which addressed the impact a peanut allergy had on the caregivers of children affected by this disorder. Research suggested that given the sporadic nature of the reaction that occurred the peanut allergy and resulting outcomes are likely to cause anxiety. Nurse practitioners were encouraged to promote anxiety reduction in caregivers of the peanut-allergic child by implementing meditation treatment. Research introduced the effects of meditation on anxiety in caregivers of peanut-allergic children. Statistical analysis included a paired samples t-test comparing pre-meditation score of M=25.07 with post-meditation score of M=18.79 indicating that there was a significant reduction in anxiety following meditation use by 14 caregivers of peanut-allergic children. Since meditation reduced anxiety in this small sample of caregivers, results may be reproduced on a larger scale to improve generalizability of results. Healthcare outcomes improved as others may be educated on the use of this treatment modality to reduce anxiety.
