This study outlines the development and validation of a new 5-dimensional Workplace Spirituality Measure (WSM), which extends the 4-dimensional Workplace Spirituality Scale (WPS) developed by Petchsawang and Duchon (2009). I employed a 2-phase methodology to create this new measure. In Phase 1, I generated items using an inductive approach, creating and modifying them based on literature representing the four dimensions of workplace spirituality identified by Petchsawang and Duchon. In Phase 2, I undertook a qualitative peer review process to ensure clarity, appropriateness, and content validity of the pilot WSM measure. The measure was then validated on a North American sample of 218 respondents from a variety of workplaces and industries. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with tests of sample invariance supported a 17-item measurement model comprising 5 correlated but distinct subscales of workplace spirituality: meaningful work, mindfulness, compassionate leadership, collective compassion, and transcendence. The results indicate convergent and discriminant validity as well as high internal consistency for the instrument. Significant associations with job-related affective well-being, organizational commitment, and intention to resign established the criterion-related validity of each subscale. Compared to the WPS, the WSM demonstrates improved internal consistency reliability and criterion-related validity. Also, two new subscales of workplace spirituality were discovered in this study: compassionate leadership and collective compassion. These findings support the use of the instrument in academic and applied settings. Theoretical and practical implications of the findings, as well as directions for future research, are discussed. Keywords: workplace spirituality, meaningful work, mindfulness, compassion, transcendence, well-being, workplace spirituality measure, WSM.
