This thesis explores how to tackle food insecurity in Northwoods, MO, in St. Louis County. After decades of disinvestment in the community and social determinants such as health, it presents an opportunity for the Church to create a center of influence by tackling food insecurity. It has been documented in detail by the Missouri Foundation of Health and many other local and regional sources, the impacts and outcomes of not having the proper food nutrients for the community to thrive rather than survive. This analysis aims to explore lived experiences and create sustainable solutions to tackle and reduce food insecurity issues in the first ring (abuts to the city limits) suburban North County city of Northwoods, MO. The analysis will explore, describe, interpret, and situate the most affected and how they experience food insecurity. This study will be conducted through conversations with community and church members, potential funders, potential workers, and those who have created solutions in the communities both in our region and outside the area. Food insecurity is one of the top three issues in the city of Northwoods, Mo. Through partnerships and collaborations with churches, nonprofits, and government entities, we will reimagine our current food pantry and launch a food ministry that will tackle food insecurity and well-being issues like health. We will find that tackling food insecurity will reduce the prevalence of food insecurity and poverty and increase health, economic, and social outcomes for those in oppressed, marginalized communities, especially in our targeted area of Northwoods, MO.
