The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine the factors that influence technology adoption using a thematic analysis that contributes to the conceptual framework of gerontechnology. Twelve mature adults (60 to 70 years of age) were selected for qualitative semi-structured interviews. The participants lived independently and without assistance. The qualitative interviews consisted of three research categories: (a) perceived usefulness, (b) ease of use, and (c) attitudes toward technology usefulness. The findings highlighted which factors influence technology adoption and which factors create barriers. The importance of understanding these factors may help researchers move forward in predicting how positive and negative attitudes play a role in mediating technology adoption behaviors in mature adults. In addition, lifelong supportive training extending into late adulthood can provide many benefits, including adopting new technologies. A future behavioral model that incorporates the finding from this study is recommended.
