The purpose of this study was to examine how school librarians can support makerspaces in direction and design as well as the roles of librarians in the development of makerspaces to create equitable access. This case study focused on one impoverished school district in a metro suburban area in the Southeast with a significant rural population. The researcher collected three forms of data: documents from trainings, interviews, and observations of school. The researcher observed school librarians and their makerspaces and conducted interviews about their current involvement with makerspaces and their perceptions about their roles related to makerspaces and creating an equitable environment. In looking at the findings, the researcher found evidence that the makerspace could be ideally suited for school libraries. The research suggests that school librarians are uniquely skilled and positioned to design, support, and facilitate makerspaces that have educational value for the entire school community. Additionally, the ability to offer makerspace resources to all students aligns with the school librarians' goal of equitable access.
