This dissertation contends that a deeper understanding of the concept of go'el can enrich the understanding of redemption and can contribute to the contemporary theologies of mission by reconsidering the Christian identity as members of God's family and by affirming the role of the redeemed community as agents of redemption for the centripetal mission, which is holistic in nature. Missiological and biblical studies on go'el, including Leviticus 25:23-55, the Book of Ruth, the Writings, and the Prophets, were examined to find missiological implications that may enrich the missiological understanding of redemption.The uniquely Hebrew go'el institution models how the Israelites are to sacrificially and voluntarily preserve and protect the lineage and land inheritance of a needy brother or relative in order to keep them economically, socially, and spiritually whole. The attributes of go'el are ascribed to God, who redeemed the Israelites from Egypt, and also to a close kinsman who shows comprehensive care for a needy brother. The priority of preserving lineage over land redemption demonstrated in the go'el institution supports the ultimacy of salvation over the primacy of social participation but displays an interdependency to emphasize the necessity of both aspects in mission practices.The concept of family, inherent in the go'el relationship, is reflective of the familial relationship between God and the Israelites. Perceiving believers and non-believers as brothers in God's family helps to motivate a redemptive lifestyle. The comprehensive concern shown through the concept of go'el reflects God's redemptive nature of a holistic blessing, which the redeemed people of God are commanded to imitate.The spirit of go'el promotes a holistic approach that can be adopted by Church and mission to affect not only spiritual redemption but also social and economic changes. The redemptive lifestyle commanded by God accomplishes the centripetal mission of God by attracting non-believers to discover the glory of God manifested in the genuine love of the redeemed community. The centripetal mission, which is fueled by the centrifugal mission in the New Testament churches, can energize the contemporary Church to fulfill its mission to be a channel of blessing to all nations.
