As the Church searches for answers to a fractured society struggling with unity amongst diversity, finding the answers within the authority of Scripture is critical. Leading through ethnic and cultural diversity is modeled in the Bible, especially in the birth of the Church in the Book of Acts. Due to the focus on Paul and Peter in the Book of Acts, this dissertation will survey their leadership but from within the framework of Burns's book, Transforming Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine exegetically the Apostles' leadership principles during the diversification of the early Church after Pentecost, while applying the definition, theories, and results of Burns's transforming leadership so that the twenty-first-century American Church can pattern its leadership in response to Christianity's cultural diversity. The current study proposes that the leadership principles of Paul and Peter in the Book of Acts are applicable and relevant to the current issues of church diversity. The current research also verifies that the application of transformational leadership to the twenty-first-century American Church's leadership will prove to be effective in transforming ethnic diversity in the local church.
