The role and responsibilities of an elder within a local church have critical importance to the health of each local church. Local churches must focus on equipping laymen for biblical eldership to ensure congregational care. Biblical eldership provides Christ-like protection, leadership, care, and teaching for a congregation. Sadly, many evangelical churches in North America often misunderstand, forget, neglect, or deny the role of an elder. The project director's local church did not have a process for equipping laymen for biblical eldership before the completion of this project. Therefore, the project director chose to create a strategy for equipping laymen for biblical eldership at Crossroads Community Church (C3) in Stockbridge, Michigan where he serves as senior pastor. The project director determined the project's rationale and objectives in chapter 1 to accomplish the ministry project. Then the project director clarified key terms for the sake of clear communication. Next, the project director focused on the biblical and theological foundations for the ministry project by exegeting 1 Tim 3:1-7, 1 Pet 5:1-4, and Mark 3:13-15. The project director chose these Scripture passages to answer three primary questions: who can serve as an elder, responsibilities of an elder, and how laymen train to serve as biblical elders. Next, the project director addressed the ministry foundations for the project by identifying four primary training models (curriculum, leadership development, life-on-life discipleship, and congregational mentoring) and identifying and researching specific strategies within each model. The project director synthesized existing strategies within the four models to create the project strategy. The project director also researched and identified tools and ministry partnerships for equipping laymen for biblical eldership. In chapter three, the project director explains his finding and provides the foundation for the project strategy. Next, the project director developed the strategy for equipping laymen for biblical eldership and offered further explanation and analysis for the strategy in chapters four and five. Finally, the project director reflected on the project's impact on his personal and professional life. By creating a strategy for equipping laymen for biblical eldership at C3, the congregation's health will increase, and the church's biblical leadership will strengthen for future generations. May God be glorified through the work of training elders at C3 and His church strengthened until He comes!
