The world today is in transition. Many people are moving from their country of origin to live in places that are culturally, ethnically, and linguistically different. Communication, the internet, technology, and travel have made much of this possible. Economic, educational, and safety concerns have made the transition necessary. The church has the choice to ignore the growing ethnic diversity of our country or embrace it as a way to fulfill the Great Commission. The historical precedent set by the early church was that of an increasingly multiethnic missional movement.Grace Point Alliance Church intentionally began in Buffalo, NY as a multiethnic congregation and embraced missional church principles. Grace Point's attendees include first- and second-generation immigrants, refugees, and international students. This church embraces the idea that ministry with international students is a missional opportunity to share the love of Christ and advance the Gospel of Christ into other parts of the world. Grace Point welcomes, disciples, and sends people into places that are often difficult to be a Christian. Yet this is viewed as strategic in God's mission for the church. The purpose of this project is to explore the effectiveness of a multiethnic missional church in ministry with international students. Literature review and exegetical study show the biblical precedent for the missional movement of the Church. The missional principles that guide our ministry keep us aligned with God's purpose for the Church. Surveys and interviews of resident attendees and international students reveal areas of effectiveness. There is also a reciprocal benefit for a church that engages in ministry with people of diverse cultures. The question faced by Grace Point is if the missional approach for a multiethnic church is effective in a North American context. In other words, does our approach accomplish the Great Commission? This case study of Grace Point Alliance provides some practical application for pastors and churches who are contemplating a missional approach to their ministry. While not exhaustive in its scope, or providing a "how-to guide," it does present foundational principles for missional and multiethnic ministry. The case study provides the experience of one church that has implemented these principles as it has led to ministry with international students as a means of strategic missional impact.
