This proposed study will investigate the role of auditory rhythm within dance/movement therapy. Specifically, for the purpose of this study I am defining auditory rhythm as the use of the body to create sound that corresponds to a specific meter or pulse. For Study I, I predicted that there may be a possible relationship between the participation of auditory rhythm and the happiness rating of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. I conducted a two-tailed T test which indicated that there is not a significant difference between happiness score and participation in auditory rhythm t(85)=-1.24, p>.05. I also used an ANOVA calculation to determine the possible relationship between the amount of auditory rhythm an individual participates in per month, and their score on the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. The one-way ANOVA determined that there is not a significant difference between the happiness score of at least two groups F(4,84), p=0.954. In order to expand upon the specific research of auditory rhythm within dance/movement therapy, I conducted an interview series of current dance/movement therapists. There were six participants within this interview series that I facilitated and then compiled into a loose data analysis. This analysis consisted of finding commonalities and differences between the participants' responses in order to present a generalized guideline for further research or individual dance/movement therapist investigation.
