Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has three types, Chinese medicinal materials, traditional Chinese medicine preparations, and modern Chinese medicine preparations. However, Chinese medicinal materials and traditional Chinese medicine preparations have several disadvantages. The research and development of Chinese medicine preparations products are more difficult due to the complexity and diversity of TCM, compared with biological products and chemical products. There are several ways to register a new product for Chinese medicine preparations. Classical prescription can be registered by simplified registration without clinical study.The classical prescription originates from the prescription recorded in the ancient classics, which is also regarded as a kind of cultural treasure in China. In 2008, the concept of ancient classical prescriptions is clarified: it refers to the prescription which is still widely used, has a definite curative effect, possesses obvious characteristics and advantages, and is recorded in medical classics in or before the Qing Dynasty. The classical prescription has also been proved its connotations and attributions, which has gradually attracted extensive attention and research with the time going by. Modern Chinese medicine preparations new products based on classical prescriptions are needed objectively and urgently.From all the above, it is relevant that the research and development of classical prescriptions are still in the initial stage. It is needed to be discovered and improved in a theoretical and systematic way. Thus, our research will set one standardized and modernized model to have a theoretical and systematic point of view for the research and development of one screened classical prescription Bao Yuan Decoction (BYD). This multivariate data analysis model includes 4 factors, namely, literature study, clinical positioning, patent distribution, and policy orientation, which play quite crucial roles in the research and development of the classical prescription. Through this analysis model, we may investigate new insights into the understanding of the research and development of the classical prescription BYD, identify potential future perspectives of the research and development of the classical prescription BYD, and provide some guidance and direction to shed light on the research and development of the classical prescription BYD, which can have a far-reaching effect on the research and development for classical prescriptions to give impetus to the maturity in the process of time.Qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis will be used in this thesis. In each factor, the exact methodology will be used to analyze the data. The literature study will be analyzed by the bibliometrics analysis through the time distribution and space cooperation by CiteSpace software. The clinical positioning will be analyzed by the cluster analysis and correlation analysis between the BYD and 5 medicine including ginseng, milkvetch, licorice, cassia bark, and ginger. The patent distribution will be analyzed by the multidimensions analysis containing temporal, spatial, and technological by the Incopat. The policy orientation will be analyzed by the comparative analysis and descriptive analysis to analyze the policy about classical prescription BYD.The journey of research and development of BYD has still in the initial stage. The space global network has relevant regional distribution in Asia. In particular, China makes a great contribution to building up large research clusters. Clinical positioning could be focused on the clinical study in diseases with the most correlation effectiveness, such as cardiovascular function and inflammation & immunization. BYD shows potential medical effectiveness in various ailments. The BYD patents have an obvious geographical distribution and a wide range in China which shows the popularity and emphasis in the research and development of BYD. A61K, A61K, and G01N are hot spots of promotion. The key information is the key policy for the research and development of BYD. And BYD has its special characteristics One Root of Medicine and Food which is potential in broad prospects for the research and development of BYD products. The safety, efficacy, regulatory standards may lay stress on quality control of these classical prescription products.This research has developed a multivariate data analysis model including literature study, clinical positioning, patent distribution, and policy orientation four factors. Based on the above, this model is beneficial for the research and development of BYD which can investigate new insights, identify potential future perspectives, provide some guidance and direction for the research and development of the classical prescription BYD. This model has a far-reaching effect on the research and development for classical prescriptions to give impetus to maturity in the process of time.
