There is little doubt in the mental health field that there is great need for more culturally/linguistically competent clinicians. This is the case for many minority groups in the United States including the Spanish speaking populations, which is the most relevant community to this research study. Oftentimes, multicultural training research focuses on studying diverse populations and best treatment interventions. However, the therapist providing such interventions to such populations has not received enough research attention. My research study centered around exploring the person of the therapist, which involves therapists' personal challenges and values (psychological, cultural, and spiritual) leading to their worldview formation (Aponte et.al., 2009). Nevertheless, the primarily focus of my research is the intersections between person of the therapist, cultural identity and professional identity resulting from exposure to the Psychological Services for Spanish Speaking Populations (PSSSP) training program offered at Our Lady of the Lake University. I adopted content analysis as the methodological design to analyze archival data derived from a previous research project on the PSSSP. My research study provides insights about bilingual training experiences impact on bilingual trainees' cultural identities. Among the most significant aspect of my findings is how impactful was the trainings' immersion course abroad for therapists and therapists in training. Additional training experiences identified as meaningful are the exposure to Spanish in classes and the Spanish live supervision team, and other credited courses such as the Latinx psychology class as. All of these aspects of the program were described as impactful connecting them to their Latinx/Mexican roots, and helpful to develop a better understanding and appreciation of these roots and their Latinx identities. Ultimately, they connected these new perspectives to their competence working with diverse populations, and more specifically with Latinx clients / families.
