Very few women occupy sport leadership positions, and not much has been done to address the general underrepresentation of women in sport leadership positions. This research study explored challenges and barriers Cameroonian female athletes face within various sport organizations. Schein's (1984) Organizational Culture Theory was used to examine female athletes' career paths and adaptation into sport leadership positions. Seven participants were purposely selected from the sport ministry, local, national, and international sport organizations. Data collection consisted of semi-structured interviews with seven athletes. Four themes emerged from the findings: (1) impact of education and training for career success; (2) critical role of networking and mentoring; (3) barriers of imposter syndrome, culture, and organizational flaws; and (4) women building capacity within sport administration. Findings from this study also indicated that female athletes lack self-esteem, but that they have experience and possess what it takes to become better sport leaders. Because many female athletes are willing to be included within sport leadership, and global organizations require sport organizations to include more women, there is a need for these women to seek a better education, networking, and mentoring. An additional finding emerged to encourage leadership and human resources to equip male dominant governing bodies with development programs to help organizations to understand the necessity for gender equality and diversity within sport leadership positions. Further, limitations, conclusions, and recommendations for future research were presented.
