Mental health is part of human development. Globally, it is estimated that one in ten persons suffers from a mental-related problem. Haiti is known for issues with mental health, such as post-traumatic disorder (PTSD), depression, and trauma. In Haiti, Natural disasters are the leading causes of mental illnesses. From the research, 24.6% of 2010 earthquake survivors developed PTSD, and 50% had a depressive disorder. Other causes of mental healthcare include poverty, violence, and political approach.There are few mental health institutions and few professionals to meet mental health needs. Moreover, Haiti has an unequal distribution of mental health resources. All these factors leave mental illness unattended in Haiti. Other factors include the high cost of mental health services and stigmatization. Therefore, 70% of Haitian with mental health illnesses do not receive mental health services. This paper aims to create mental health awareness through social media. Social media is an effective method for running mental health campaigns because it has a massive impact, is cheaper than visiting a psychiatrist, and people who feel stigmatized can use social platforms without fear. Social media awareness has been successfully applied in countries such as Japan to create awareness of COVID-19 and in the American Association for Cancer Education to create awareness of cancer.The campaign will use YouTube™, Tik Tok™, WhatsApp™, Facebook™, and InstagramTM social platforms to spread mental awareness messages. The mental health advocates, teachers, pastors, priests, professional healthcare, and community leaders will use the script provided to them to compose a three-minute message via video or audio recording to target the demographic they represent. Every two weeks, a new message will be on YouTube™, Tik Tok™, WhatsApp™, Facebook™, and Instagram. Two videos or audios of similar themes will be produced every single month. The campaign will last 12 months and will use the Theory of change model to educate the public.The main challenges this campaign may face are high prices of smartphones, electricity, and the internet. Moreover, religious leaders may refuse to participate in the awareness campaign. To curb these challenges, the stakeholders should partner with the Haitian government to provide those who cannot afford smartphones, electricity, and internet with phones or tablets, power banks, or solar systems to help people charge their phones and free Wi-Fi. Video and audio records should be recorded in local languages to avoid the language barrier. Priests and other leaders should be encouraged to participate in social media awareness since mental awareness is a community responsibility, not an individual responsibility.
