The Doctoral Performance and Research submitted by Kristie Halverson, under the direction of Association Professor Mariana Farah, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in fulfillment of the requirement for the degree of the Doctor of Musical Arts consists of the following:I. Written Project"A Content Analysis: Composer Representation in Choral Conducting Textbooks Published in the United States from 1983-2011" This 110-page written project is a content analysis of ten introductory choral conducting textbooks. The author identified the elements of conducting which are most common in these books and the identities of the composers whose works are printed in the textbooks with these elements. Supplemental music which is written by underrepresented composers is then provided with the most common conducting elements.II.
