Considering the exponential growth of social media and accessibility to such platforms available at earlier stages of life from its consumers, this study aims at examining Georgia State High School athletic directors' perceptions of social media policy educational resources and implementation. Barriers and grey areas surrounding legal limitations and extent will be considered as to why social media policy education and implementation at the interscholastic level is lacking and oftentimes completely absent. A quantitative, cross-sectional, nonexperimental, research survey was distributed to all GHSA ADs throughout each of the seven classifications within the state to gather information. Utilizing the implementation process assessment tool (IPAT) and the social media policy acceptance model (SMPAM) this study analyzed the associated subscales and sub-constructs to determine ADs do find value in implementing social media policies within their programs. Additionally, this study determined a lack of foundational educational resources to build upon, lacking organizational support, and unclear implementation methods to streamline such a process resulted in many ADs to forgo an official policy all together. The results indicate that while a universal policy is unrealistic, there are best practices that can be developed and implemented on the state level with national and state specific laws being adhered to. This study aims to provide foundational information for future research and application to be built upon.
