Nowadays, climate change and global warming are familiar concepts for the society. Researches identified GHGs as the primary source of this issue. In recent years they have developed several studies to mitigate and avoid the excessive emissions of these gases into the atmosphere. To take action with this issue, it is necessary to measure the quantity of the gases released by each sector. Therefore, the carbon footprint is identified as the most suitable indicator to do so.The tourism sector is recognized as a principal actor in the production of GHGs, owing to the energy required for transportation, accommodation, and leisure activities. Companies and customers are day by day more aware of the situation willing to find solutions. Nevertheless, the wine tourism sector lacks of information concerning this topic. This master thesis aims to provide a methodology for estimating the carbon footprint generated by the enotourism sector in Bordeaux, France, quantified and analyzed the results, and compared the GHGs emissions for three subcategories, accommodation, transport, and activities. Three research questions were addressed: What travel choices from tourists in the Bordeaux region are the most carbonintensive? What is the impact of measuring the GHGs? What recommendations can be elaborated to mitigate carbon emissions in the further development of wine tourism in the region?Summarizing the main findings of this study: In the transport item, cars generate around double CF compared to buses. Hotels are the lodgements with more CF emissions in the accommodation item. On the other hand, camping is the most carbon-efficient lodgement. Finally, in the activities item, Fete du Vin is the one with the highest CF. Contrarily, visiting wine bars is the subitem with the smallest amount. The results and total quantity allocated per tourist align with the results from the only scientific article regarding this topic and published by Australian authors. This master thesis also proposes mitigation actions and strategies to decrease emission, applying concepts of sharing economy and smart living to improve the current situation and build a better future for the planet and the new generations. Finally, some limitations were addressed and considerations for future studies regarding the carbon footprint in the enotourism field.
