Research on project based learning (PBL) has found it significantly increases studentachievement and attitudes towards learning. PBL has been studied in classrooms of all contentareas and to a lesser degree with students with disabilities (SWD). Students with disabilities are atargeted demographic because of their tendency to achieve at lower rates than their peers withoutdisabilities. The following paper includes a review of the literature on PBL, PBL in scienceclassrooms, and using PBL with SWD. The results of the review were synthesized into aprofessional development project that can be used to educate science teachers on how toimplement PBL in their classrooms with SWD. A small qualitative case study showed theprofessional development increased teachers' confidence in using PBL with SWD.
