Mindfulness-based interventions have been widely researched and are increasingly used as an intervention for promoting focus and well-being in adolescents. Though a variety of programs exist for engaging adolescents in mindfulness curriculum, the ability to engage all learners is an ongoing need. Universal Design for Learning incorporates a philosophy of inclusion for engaging students of diverse ethnic, cultural, and learning backgrounds. Based on a review of literature, the aim of this project is to facilitate the inclusive design of mindfulness-based interventions for adolescent students across diverse backgrounds. Key aspects of mindfulness along with instructional strategies consistent with a UDL approach will be presented. A review of digital tools for content delivery and progress monitoring will also be highlighted to provide adolescent learners with multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. The resulting program will be intended for use by school-based mental health support personnel, including school psychologists, school counselors, and school social workers.
