The purpose of this quantitative predictive correlational study was to examine if and to what degree the dimensions of coaches' leadership behavior, as perceived by high school baseball players in the United States, predict their athlete satisfaction with the processes of coaching behavior (ability utilization, strategy, personal treatment, and training and instruction) and athlete performance. Variables were measured with the Leadership Scale for Sport, athlete perception version (LSS) and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASQ). A convenience sample was used to collect data. The final sample included 126 participants. The Multidimensional Model of Leadership was the theoretical foundation for which the research questions were developed. A multiple linear analysis answered all four research questions. Significant predictions were revealed for the first and third research questions, with significant predictions found between all predictor variables combined (training and instruction, democratic behavior, autocratic behavior, social support, and training and instruction) and each criterion variable: Ability utilization, strategy, personal treatment, training and instruction, and athlete performance. There were also significant predictions found for research question two: Training and instruction on ability utilization (β = .26), p = .02; strategy (β = .28), p = .007; and training and instruction satisfaction (β = .19), p = .001; and for autocratic behavior on strategy (β = -.32), p = .05 and training and instruction satisfaction (β = -.19), p = .03, and four (training and instruction predicted athlete performance (β = .16), p = .008. These findings may be applied to develop coach leadership models and provide training and interventions for coach leadership behaviors that are conducive to optimal athlete satisfaction and athlete performance.
