This quantitative nonexperimental study was developed to analyze the relationship between obesity and physical literacy (PL). Since the early 2010s, PL has been developed, defined, delineated within our national standards, and determined its importance in the forefront of educational stakeholders. In the same amount of time, the prevalence of obesity has surged across the U.S. However, research has not been investigated to determine any significance between obesity and PL. This study aims to examine factors of PL and obesity as measured by the body-mass index by answering these questions: If, and to what extent, do the set of PL factors predict obesity in adolescent males aged 12-16 in North Carolina? What are the unique contributions of the predictors (a) knowledge and understanding, (b) self-expression and communication with others, and (c) sense of self and self-confidence in predicting obesity among adolescent males in North Carolina? This research will use a survey that measures adolescents' perceived PL. The sample was selected using nonprobability strategy based on Cohen's statistical power analysis resulting in 115 participants. Data were collected, and analysis was performed using multiple regression and coefficient testing. Testing assumptions and Cronbach's alpha was performed. Assumptions were satisfied, and the scale indicated good overall reliability. Research showed statistically significant results. Additionally, two of three predictors proved unique contributions to predicting obesity. A regression equation indicated that adolescents with higher perceived PL would have lower BMI. Future research would benefit from exploring predictors individually and developing a national PL assessment tool.
