Culture is an important aspect of all individuals' lives. It becomes even more important when one leaves their home country to settle into a new country and engage in a new culture. Acculturation becomes an important aspect in the lives of those who go through the journey of leaving their home country to live in a new host country. Acculturation is the process which many undergo when one has to re-establish themselves in a new country with different cultural values and beliefs. This process of acculturation result in many changes such as psychological, social, and behavioral changes This dissertation is a critical review of literature that aims to explore the concepts of acculturation in South Asian immigrants and their offspring. It will explore the process of acculturation in Southeast Asians parents and the acculturation gap between immigrant parents and their children. It will explore the concept of acculturation and the strategies of immigrant individuals to acculturate into host culture. Finally, the literature review will explore protective factors for immigrant parents and children on the process of acculturation.
