Compensating for seemingly unfilled statements of urgency like "the time is near," "these things must soon come to pass," and "I am coming quickly," John's Apocalypse has suffered from centuries of allegorical, literal, historical, futuristic, idealistic, and fictional interpretations. These resulting interpretations attempt to explain Johannine temporal markers through their understanding of the hyperbolic events in Revelation. Consequently, modern readers must choose a presuppositional hermeneutic they generally find inadequate. Neither the preterist, historicist, futurist, or idealist perspective satisfies their hermeneutical need. In contrast to these revelatory events influencing John's temporal markers, this paper posits that the Johannine temporal inclusios govern its hermeneutic. Thus, this qualitative study explores Johannine apocalypticism in relation to Jewish apocalypticism, the unique role of Johannine temporal inclusios, and its resulting hermeneutics. The findings reveal that in the same way John's apocalyptic images have symbolic meaning, his temporal pointers also underscore a hidden purpose. John's application of ἔγγυς, ταχός, and ταχύς serve as literary devices to influence his audience to be faithful and serve the crucified Lamb. Thus, modern readers are not forced into a presuppositional understanding of Revelation. Instead, interpreters can consistently apply a Jewish apocalyptic hermeneutic to all twenty-two chapters. .
