Considering a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world where businesses seek to adapt rapidly, transformational skills are required more than ever by all leaders. However, paradoxically, organizations have fewer resources than before to develop such skills. Based on up-to-date scientific literature and leadership challenges in Latin American organizations, this dissertation identifies nine design principles that may accelerate the transformational leadership development (TLD) process for Latin American leaders.Based on the design-based research paradigm, after analyzing the responses of thirty-one participants working in corporations in Latin America (LATAM), the findings show the following:•After four decades, the transformational leadership (TL) model is still relevant in today's corporate world among different countries, sub-cultures, and generations.•Of the four dimensions of TL-idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration-there are nuances across cultures related to the meaning of idealized influence and individualized consideration.•Moments of insight and transformation that allow an executive to become a transformational leader occur due to an external element that dynamizes the internal structure of being attentive, intelligent, reasonable, and responsible. The relevance of developmental readiness is validated, as well as postulations about the importance of virtues in the upper echelons of management that help enable developmental readiness. The nine design principles to accelerate TLD within Latin American leaders are listed below:1.Old is gold (the four elements of TL are still relevant attributes and behaviors).2.Have nasty friends (that can share straight feedback with the genuine purpose of helping).3.Create a save face environment (particularly crucial in LATAM).4.Know thyself (foster an ecosystem that increases self-awareness).5.Expand horizons (invest in learning from different cultures).6.Cultural alignment (organizational culture must be strategically and ethically aligned with TL's implicit and explicit values).7.Get personal (there is a less compartmentalized perspective of leadership in LATAM).8.Erudition is essential (in LATAM, process facilitation that enhances leadership must include a philosophical perspective of human development, not only pragmatic).9.Good is good (elevate TL's value, acknowledging its positive contribution towards human good in a more profound perspective).
