Bir disiplin olarak Uluslararasi Iliskiler, ana teorilerinde sekuler olarak kabul edilmis olsa da bu tum dunyada genel gecer bir kural degildir. Hatta bazi kulturlerde tam tersi bir durum gecerlidir. Hristiyan-Yahudi gelenegiyle ortaya cikan ve dini bireysel alanda konumlandiran bu sekuler tutum, 1990'li yillarin basinda belli belirsiz ortaya cikmis ve 2000'li yillarda akademik calismalarda yogun bir artis gostermistir. Tez, teorik perspektifi disinda arastirma sorularini iki ana hatta dayandirmistir. Devlet mesruiyetin "yeni" kavramlara ihtiyac duydugu bu donemde "yumusak mesruiyet" kavrami olusturularak dine atif yapilmistir. Eski bir yeni olarak din "yumusak mesruiyet" kavrami icinde yer alan bir unsurdur. Konfucyanizmin ne oldugu tartismasina da deginilerek bir din olarak devlet mesruiyetine yaptigi atiflara vurgu yapilmistir. Ozellikle Dogu Asya'da din kamusal alanda devlet ile ic ice gecmis ve onun varligini mesrulastiran unsurlardan biri olarak yer almistir. Bu durumun nedenleri tezin ucuncu bolumunde detaylariyla verilmistir. Dinin devlet mesruiyetindeki konumunu goz onune aldigimizda bu durumun Uluslararasi Iliskiler teorilerine de yansimasi kacinilmaz. Konfucyanizmin uluslararasi iliskiler anlayisinin incelenmesi yeni teoriler olusturulmasi ve daha guvenilir arastirmalar yapilmasini arttiracaktir.

Although International Relations as a discipline is recognized as secular in its main theories, this is not a general rule everywhere in the world. In some cultures, the opposite is true. This secular stance, which emerged with the Judeo-Christian tradition and positioned religion in the individual sphere, emerged vaguely in the early 1990s and increased sharply in academic studies in the 2000s. Apart from its theoretical perspective, the thesis has based its research questions on two main lines. In the period we live in when state legitimacy needed "new" concepts, the concept of "soft legitimacy" was created and related to religion. Religion as an old and new element is a component of the concept of "soft legitimacy". The discussion of what Confucianism is and its references to the legitimacy of the state as a religion are highlighted in the thesis. Especially in East Asia, religion was intertwined with the state in the public sphere and took its place as one of the elements legitimizing its existence. The reasons for this situation are detailed in the third chapter of the thesis. Considering the position of religion in legitimizing the state, it is inevitable that this situation will affect the theories of international relations. The study of Confucianist understanding of international relations will promote the creation of new theories and more reliable research.
