According to the APA, issues of culture and diversity are essential areas of competency that all mental health clinicians should and must consider when providing services. Included under the umbrella of culture are religion and spirituality (RS) practices and beliefs. The majority of the globe's population engages in RS practices, which are intertwined with their cultural identity. For clients who engage in RS practices, they desire to have a provider who is open to integrating their beliefs and initiates the conversation. Unfortunately, while clinicians report understanding the importance of client RS, the majority of providers fail to acknowledge, address, or integrate it into client treatment, resulting in the provision of culturally incompetent care. The participants studied in this doctoral project were licensed clinicians from five major professions (clinical social work, psychologists, MFT, LPC, and other mental health/counseling) recruited using the internet/social media. A quantitative research method was utilized and was appropriate because the two research questions focused on the relationship between the variables. This study identified a correlation between the variables by using chi-square tests of independence, independent t-tests, and correlational analysis. Using the RSIPAS survey, the findings for the two research questions revealed that they supported the alternative hypotheses and rejected the null-hypothesis. The implications of this doctoral study toward the field of psychology can have a considerable impact on the provision of culturally competent mental health services.
