The Exodus was a historical event accomplished through Yahweh's servant, Moses. As Yahweh's servant, Moses liberated Israel from Egyptian bondage, led the nation through the wilderness, and prepared Israel for their entrance into the Promised Land as a holy people identified by Yahweh's Law. However, because Israel did not uphold the stipulations of Yahweh's Law, their Exodus was reversed, and the nation went into exile. Nevertheless, the prophets predicted a period when Yahweh, through another Servant, the Prophet like Moses, would lead the nation in a Second Exodus that ends in a glorious restoration in the Promised Land. The Fourth Gospel presents Jesus as the anticipated Prophet like Moses, who partially fulfills the prophets' expectations for the Second Exodus. In the Fourth Gospel, John reveals that the purpose of Jesus's earthly ministry was to resolve humanity's sin problem (John 20:31). However, in Revelation, John records Exodus imagery, precisely in the trumpet and bowl judgments, to describe how Jesus, as the Prophet like Moses, fulfills the entirety of the prophets' expectations for the Second Exodus during the Tribulation and into the millennial age.
