Following forty-five years of control and restraint by the Communist government, political change engulfed Hungary in late 1989. These changes ushered in a new freedom of religion law in February 1990. With these new freedoms, Pentecostals in Hungary experienced the opportunity to live out their faith openly and without restraints. The Hungarian Pentecostal Church began to expand ministries and grow, local churches renewed evangelistic outreach into their respective communities, and individual believers began to experience the outpouring of the Spirit through the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This Spirit-empowered, lived-out faith strengthened local communities of believers and made an impact throughout the country. This research articulates a theology of Pentecostal spirituality in the Hungarian context through the lens of a Lukan theology of Pentecostal spiritually based on Acts 1-4. This includes defining and examining elements of Pentecostal spirituality within the rubric of orthodoxy (right beliefs), orthopraxy (right practices and actions), and orthopathy (right affections). To discover and listen to the Hungarian voice regarding Pentecostal spirituality, contextual ecclesial factors, Hungarian Pentecostal spirituality elements, and the subjective perceptions of Hungarian Pentecostal pastors regarding their Pentecostal identity, help describe what influences and informs Hungarian Pentecostal spirituality. The integration of this research's findings results in the enunciation of a theology of Pentecostal spirituality in the Hungarian context.
