For many Latinx community college students, grades are a key indicator of academic success and therefore research in non-cognitive factors such as grit and growth mindset is needed. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine if, and to what extent, there is a relationship between grit and growth mindset of Latinx Community College Students and their cumulative GPA in the Southwestern United States. Dweck's Mindset theory and Duckworth's theory of grit supported this research. The two research questions examined the significance between grit, growth mindset, and cumulative GPA of Latinx community college students. The sample of 146 community college students completed a survey using the Grit-S and Implicit Theory of Intelligence (Self-Theory) scale and self-reported their cumulative GPA. A Spearman's Rho correlation was conducted to examine the strength of the association between grit and cumulative GPA. The finding of the Spearman's Rho correlation was not statistically significant, rs(144) = .12, p = .136. A Spearman's Rho correlation was used to examine the strength of the association between growth mindset and cumulative GPA. The finding of the Spearman's Rho correlation was not statistically significant, rs(144) = .13, p = .120. Both findings do not support the existence of a statistically significant correlation between grit, growth mindset and the cumulative GPA of Latinx community college students.
