Bullying and peer victimization is a universal phenomenon that impacts an abundant amount of children and adolescents in the United States each year. It is estimated that at least one in five children and adolescents are experiencing a form of bullying each year. Bullying has long-term consequences on youth, which includes a decrease in overall academic performance and can lead to the youth to have self-destructive behaviors. Many of the prevention and intervention programs within schools in the United States are either outdated or adopted from other countries that lack the understanding of the complex and diverse American culture. This dissertation is a program design that focuses on integrating evidence-based practices to improve bullying prevention and intervention. Through the implementation of the program several outcomes are likely to occur including, decreased bullying incidents and externalizing behaviors; increased positive school environment and improved awareness, social skills and empathy. The proposed program Safe Space will include an implementation outline and questionnaires to use in conjunction with the program. Suggestions for future research with recommendations, strengths, and limitations will also be addressed.
