Students' engagement in the curriculum can be increased when different teachingmethods are incorporated. This means teachers need to adjust instruction to use methods thathelp students reach their full potential. There are limited studies exploring the effects ofintegrating movement and its relation to student engagement during STEM lessons, especially inthe special education environment. This study analyzed students' engagement when movementwas incorporated into STEM curriculum in a self-contained classroom. Participants includedseven special education students with an IEP in grades K-3. Throughout the study, students wereassessed based on their levels of engagement during movement and non-movement STEMlessons. The results of this study suggest that special education students benefit from movementoriented lessons to increase their time of engagement during STEM related lessons.
