The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most challenging worldwide catastrophes of the century. The entire sports community was temporarily terminated as the rest of the world was put on pause due the spreading of the virus. College student athletes were stripped from day-to-day activities that defined their livelihood, to be met with quarantine, testing, mask mandates, and vaccination protocols to return to campus. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the perceptions of student athletes that played Division I collegiate sports during the time of the pandemic. The problematic issue is that there is not comprehensive knowledge of how student athletes felt throughout the COVID-19 era. By understanding the role administrators played in developing protocols, and how these decisions affected those it applied to, it can bare understanding the influence administrators played on healthcare decisions. Virtual interviews with seven Division I athletes were conducted. The qualitative research was analyzed using The Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior can be broken down into six different constructs that synthesize overall themes from the research: attitude, behavioral intention, subjective norms, social norms, perceived power, and perceived control. It was found that student athletes disapproved of COVID-19 protocols that were implemented at their schools and within their conferences. Contradictory protocol and lack of communication were among the most prevalent problems from student athletes. Recommendations are based on literature review and the themes developed from the participant's interviews.
