Objectives: This study attempts to determine the perceived effectiveness and usefulness of a coach-specific mental health education intervention. Methods: Participants (31 Division I coaches at UNC - CH) were pseudo-randomized to either the control or the experimental group following the completion of online consent and eligibility confirmation. Participants completed surveys at pre-, post-, and 1-3 month follow-up. Results: Experimental group participants had significantly higher levels of self-reported knowledge in the program's five content areas and self-efficacy in four program-relevant domains. Significant group differences were not seen for either knowledge score variable. Participants did report that the program would be useful for their work with student-athletes. Conclusion: Results also provide data to demonstrate the efficacy of mental health training programs for coaches to better support student-athlete mental health. This study supports further testing of this intervention in larger and more diverse groups of collegiate coaches.
