Racism is abhorrent in any society, but in sports, it seems to be just part of the game. The problem addressed in this study is racial abuse persists even though education programs and legislation exist. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study of English football players' lived experiences is to examine the perceptions of efficacy that educational programs, along with governmental and league legislation, have on how racial abuse within the English football system affects fandom and players. The study included seven current or former players within the English football system, who were recruited through on-ground, and in-country sampling. This study used critical race theory to establish emerging themes within the narrative of the participants' responses. The research findings indicated flaws within the legislation and enforcement of the laws governing racism within football. The research findings also determined the efficacy of the educational programs to be delivered well and received at the age point which it is taught. Recommendations include researching social media and racism, revisiting legislation, and the United Kingdom Football Policing Unit in grass-roots football. This research hopes to offer an opportunity to open further discussion on racism in the world of football.
