Background: Physical activity (PA) recommendations for adults include at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise. With COVID-19 infections continuing to rise and fall over time, there is a lack of research regarding PA levels and COVID-19 severity and its aftereffects. Purpose: The purpose of this pilot descriptive survey study was to investigate PA levels and symptoms in COVID-19 survivors discharged from a hospital stay. Study Design: Descriptive cross-sectional electronic survey. Methods: This survey was sent to 119 individuals diagnosed and hospitalized with COVID-19. The inclusion criteria included COVID-19 survivors admitted to the hospital aged 18 years or older with confirmed diagnosis (PCR Test). The survey assessed current PA levels, body composition, age, gender, ethnicity, and self-report of physical function. Results: Out of the 119 surveyed, 13 completed responses to the survey (10.9%). The average age of the respondents was 50-59 years old, with 46% being male and 54% being female. The mean of their reported BMI was 37.6; only 15.4% reported meeting the PA guidelines. The most common symptom reported post- hospitalization was fatigue (92.4%), followed by muscle or body aches (84.7%), and shortness of breath or difficulty breathing (77%). Discussion: Among COVID-19 survivors responding to this survey, 84.6% reported not meeting PA guidelines, and 69.3% reported that their physical function was reduced compared to before infection. Conclusion: This pilot survey of a small number of post-hospitalized COVID-19 survivors suggests they continue to suffer from symptoms, report reduced physical function, and are not physically active.
