Background: The American Cancer Society provides general guidelines for physical activity and nutrition for cancer survivors. The American College of Sports Medicine has published general guidelines for exercise in the cancer population, but these guidelines do not provide specific dosage for the duration or necessary screening for side effects, toxicities, and functional impairments that are considered specialized needs of cancer patients. Purpose: The purpose of this survey was to determine the parameters of physical activity prescribed to cancer patients by physical therapists. Study Design: This study is a cross-sectional survey. Methods: Subjects were recruited by email with a link to the survey being sent to a list of 3482 licensed physical therapists, after two weeks the survey closed. Participants were asked about their demographics, understanding of current clinical practice guideline (CPG), and treatment methods for cancer survivors. Results: A total of twenty-four respondents completed the survey for a response rate of 0.007%. The top 3 reported cancer diagnoses treated were prostate cancer (31.8%, n= 14), breast cancer (29.5%, n= 13), and lung cancer (18.2%, n= 8). Only 8.3% reported being 'very familiar' with the current CPG. Discussion/Conclusion: Based on the respondents of this survey who treat cancer survivors, many are not familiar with the current CPG for this population. This survey can be used in the future to guide research and education into creating specific CPGs for certain cancer types and fatigue levels. This specific CPG can be critical for physical therapists in order to provide the proper care during various times of their cancer treatment.
