Sustainability within the fashion industry is a rising concern. The general business problem is a disconnect between the desires and values of plus-size consumers and what the fashion and retail industry produces, and the fashion industry is not accessing the full purchasing power of plus-size women. The specific business problem is that little information exists on the demand for Environmentally Sustainable Textile and Apparel (ESTA) by plus-size women in the United States. The purpose of this study examined the behavioral intention toward purchasing for ESTA among plus-size women living in the United States. The questions that guided the study included to what extent, if any, a plus-size woman's perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) level predicts her behavioral intention (BI) toward purchasing ESTA in the United States of America? To what extent, if any, does a plus-size woman's behavioral control (BC) level predict her BI toward purchasing ESTA in the United States of America? As applied to SCM, corporate social responsibility (CSR) provided the theoretical framework for this research. The Sustainable Textile and Apparel Consumption Questionnaire, a 29-item Likert-type scale questionnaire, assessed consumers' attitudes, perceptions, and BI toward consuming ESTA products. The Environmentally Sustainable Textile and Apparel Consumption Questionnaire was distributed through Centiment online platform. Data from the 88 respondents were analyzed using SPSS following the bivariate procedure. PCE was found to have a statistically significant predictive relationship with BI. BC IS a significant predictor of BI toward purchasing ESTA. There is a demand for ESTA in the United States of America. Opportunities for future research were discovered while conducting research that could further shape sustainable practices and influence processes in the fashion industry.
