In this investigation a descriptive study method was employed to study the potential benefits and constraints of children's experiences in nature. Various journals and books were used in order to study three main questions including the definitions and foundations of nature, health benefits of nature for children, and barriers to access of nature were all examined in depth. Research has shown that nature is difficult to define and has many variations. The benefits of nature on children's physical, social, and mental health are well established in the literature. The benefits can have lasting effects on children's attitudes towards nature and potentially help to develop stewardship and a positive relationship with nature. Many barriers to access to nature exist for children in both urban and rural settings. These include better access points for various socioeconomic groups, proper environmental and nature education programs, parent and guardian education and exposure to nature, and urban green settings accessible to all. In conclusion, while the health benefits of nature are clearly established for the physical, mental, and social domains, there is still work to be done on creating better access to nature for all populations. Recommendations for further research are given in terms of barriers to access which include investigating sociogenic factors and developing a tool to study unstructured play in nature.
