The purpose of this quantitative dissertation was to explore what relationship, if any, exists between mentoring and spiritual formation among nontraditional theological seminary students. In order to accomplish this purpose, this study surveyed the mentoring and spiritual formation practices of students who attend seminary through online courses, hybrid courses, and/or through extension centers. Students were surveyed from three evangelical seminaries in the southeastern United States. These schools were: Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia; New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. This study surveyed master's degree seeking students from the three schools over a six week interval, beginning May 22, 2013 and closing on July 17, 2013. Students were asked by their schools through an email to go to the survey site hosted by Survey Monkey, to complete their survey. After the six week deadline passed, there were 1518 students who went to the survey page and 1380 students continued with the survey. The survey itself consisted of three parts, a demographic section, the Principles of Adult Mentoring Profile is a survey that measures the depth of involvement and quality of a mentorship, while the Christian Spiritual Participation Profile measures the students participation in ten spiritual disciplines. After the students completed the survey, their results were then analyzed statistically with the aid of the statistical software SPSS. The data analysis from the surveys were used to answer five research questions. This analysis showed that for students who attend seminary through nontraditional means, having a mentor does have a positive impact on overall spiritual formation practices. Keywords: mentor, spiritual formation practices, seminary, nontraditional, online, hybrid, extension center.
