Regional economic analyses are often used in resource-based industries to inform policymakers, elected officials, and the general public of an industrys role within the regional economy. However, data limitations and methodological inconsistencies have prevented effective usage of these types of analyses in some cases of resource management. This research sought to address these issues and enhance the usage of regional economic analyses using three case studies of Florida's natural resources. First, an economic contribution study was conducted to quantify the economic role of Florida's shellfish aquaculture industry within the state's economy while addressing the issues that often arise with economic studies of U.S. aquaculture. Second, an economic impact analysis was conducted to measure the short-term economic effects of ecological restoration, using a local oyster reef restoration project as a case study. Finally, an economic impact study was conducted to analyze the economic effects of freshwater fishing tournaments that occurred in Lake Okeechobee. These studies exemplify the versatility and usefulness of regional economic analyses across all aspects of resource management.
