In the recent years, Air travel across the world saw a bull run in passenger traffic. US has seen an increase of (4-6%) passengers every year. And now, it has reduced to (60%) triggered by a virus in China (COVID-19), by early April it has spread rapidly around the globe, this event has forced the governments to impose restrictions on travel. The incident hit the aviation industry the most. This eventuality led to a sharp reduction in passenger traffic. Airline industry has seen a lot of disruption is the past, but nothing of this scale has every happened since the start of the industry. There has been a significant reduction in passenger traffic driven by fear to travel, travel restrictions. According to "Forbes" reports, due to the development of zoom call culture, business travel has the greatest impact on the industry. 36% of the business travel is permanently cut.The purpose of this study is to quantify the effect of COVID outbreak on US airline passenger traffic. This study uses a Seasonal ARIMA intervention model is used to assess the impact of the pandemic. The empirical results show the devastating effect of COVID on the airline passenger traffic, especially in the first 4 months after the outbreak. Over 90 % of the passenger demand was lost from February 2020 to April 2020 for both domestic and international passengers. But the decline in domestic travel is getting smaller and smaller. It seems that COVID-19 has a short-term impact on domestic travel. This study provides some insights for the airline industry to respond to the impact of exogenous shocks.
