This doctoral dissertation research was focused on employee motivation and national culture. The qualitative study addressed the following research question: "What are the experiences of Greek employees working at American organizations?" Employees living in Greece and working at American multinational organizations were recruited. The Greek employees described their motivation at work, their cultural values, their work values, and the organizations where they work. A qualitative investigation on employee motivation and Greek culture has not been previously documented; therefore, this study may contribute knowledge to employee motivation in cross-cultural industrial and organizational psychology. Generic qualitative inquiry methodology and research design were employed. Eight participants working at American multinational companies with offices in Greece shared their experiences and perspectives. Three themes emerged from the thematic data analysis with constant comparison: (a) motivating work in a company environment, (b) Greek pride and adaptiveness in a company environment, and (c) value congruence in a company environment. The findings were associated with the theoretical foundations of person-organization fit and value congruence. Participants reported positive experiences working at the companies and were motivated by company reputation. They described themselves as being proud of working at these companies, adapting to them, and valuing family, which were noted to be organizational values as well. Additionally, practical information from this dissertation may extend to multicultural work applications and multinational organizations to offer insights into how Greek employees view and experience working for American companies. Future recommendations include the newly developed concept of cultural motivation.
