Cyanobacteria are phototrophic oxygenic organisms that form the base of the food web in marine ecosystems. Although cyanobacteria are prevalent worldwide, little is known about their diversity and distributions in coastal regions. The findings of this thesis highlight the rich biodiversity of cyanobacteria in Singapore's waters through the use of morphological and advanced molecular techniques, and provide crucial insights for biodiversity conservation.
