Contemporary digital consumers of music challenge the passivity of music consumption as they seek to discover and engage with music-related content in new and innovative ways. This study demonstrates the responsive options South African musicians and music promoters have to leverage multimodal storytelling in music promotion. This study applies principles of transmedia storytelling (TS) to develop a brand strategy prototype to promote a local up-and-coming hip hop musician, Lezthagod. This study applies a co-design approach within a Research through Design (RtD) methodology, which reflects on the design research and practice.
