The purpose of this study was to investigate ESL and EFL teachers' understanding of English learning strategies. Moreover, teachers' perceptions of the frequency, effectiveness, and ease of teaching language learning strategies (LLSs) were investigated. The overall aim of this study was to contribute to the field of English education by providing useful insights of the lived experiences of ESL and EFL teachers and their perspectives of instructing strategies within ESL and EFL classrooms. The questionnaire utilized in this study was based on Oxford's (1990) Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL). The questionnaire data collected from two groups of participants -- ESL and EFL teachers -- were compared to find the similarities and differences between these two groups. The research described factors that have shaped ESL and EFL teachers' experiences of teaching LLSs and how these experiences have contributed to or affected their classroom instructional practices. Four major themes emerged from the analysis of data: (1) teachers' understanding of English learning strategies, (2) teachers' perceptions of the frequency of teaching LLSs, (3) teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness of teaching LLSs, and (4) teachers' perceptions of the ease of teaching LLSs. ESL and EFL teachers' challenge of teaching LLSs were also discussed. Results demonstrated that there were some significant differences between ESL and EFL teachers' perspectives of teaching LLSs.
