Medication adherence and proper education are factors for success in the use of oral chemotherapy for cancer. At the project site, no protocol exists for newly prescribed oral chemotherapy patients to aide in successful medication adherence. The purpose of this quantitative quasi-experimental quality improvement project was to determine if the implementation of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) organization's Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer Oral Agent Teaching Tool (MOATT) for patients initiated on oral chemotherapy would impact medication adherence in adult patients at an outpatient urban Arizona clinic over four-weeks. Orem's Self-Care Deficient Nursing Theory was utilized as the theoretical underpinning of the project. Data on medication adherence was measured using the Adherence Starts with Knowledge scale (ASK-12) in adult patient participants (N=11) at pre- and four weeks post-intervention. A paired t-test showed that there was no statistically significant improvement in medication adherence (t (10) = .740, p = .476). While not statistically significant, there is clinical significance in patient adherence from pre- (M = 18.64, SD = 3.85) to post-implementation (M=18.27, SD=3.66). The implementation of the MOATT tool may improve medication adherence however more data over a longer period is warranted. Recommendations are to sustain the project and data re-analyzed after six to twelve months post the COVID-19 pandemic.
